Summary
(aim and objective, outcome and results achieved)

With the rapid development of science and technology and continuing innovations in culture, the importance of lifelong education and lifelong learning is being recognized by more and more people. The severe conflict between the increasing demand for learning and insufficient higher education resources poses great challenges to the traditional education system. The University is motivated and seeks it as its mission to promote educational reform of universities and colleges to provide opportunities for lifelong learning and lifelong education.
Tsinghua Unviersity’s School of Continuing Eduaction has the responsibility for leveraging education resources to serve society’s needs. The School, relying on the University’s excellent faculty resources, solid research foundation and extensive international cooperation network, provides high-quality, multi-level educational programs which utilize the most modern technologies. The School strives to promote the renewal of knowledge and to improve the overall ability of China’s people to meet the increasingly demanding challenges of the modern world.

Summary
(aim and objective, outcome and results achieved)

In 2007,1817 training programs (excluding education-aiding-the poor project) were held with 59033 people attending the training, of which, 1231 training programs with 40613 people were finished while 586 programs with 18420 people were holding during 2007. In addition, the number of people attending the training totaled 169147 in poverty alleviation programs provided by our School, including 20228 cadres, 148919 teachers and students in primary and middle schools. Compared with the same period of last year, the number of people increased by 6.8%.

1.Cooperation and Exchange Programs with Overseas Institutes in 2007

Activity 1.
2007 Summer Service and Learning Program in Rural China

  • Title and results for training activity
  • Enhance the communication and exchange with those in the poverty-stricken areas through teaching them how to speak English, research, discussing with them the method of teaching and learning and telling them how to become good academicians and how to do some research in villages based on the education models of “large scale, verifiability, sustainability and expandability”, upgrade the knowledge base of people there so that we can take progress together into the era of knowledge-based economy and global economy and strive to realize the goal of spreading knowledge and eliminating poverty.

  • Teachers and students in primary and middle schools in 42 Chinese rural counties aided by 300 students and 39 faculty members from Tsinghua University accompanied by 74 students and faculty members from 11 different American universities

    Training Programs for Overseas People

  • Improve overseas people’s understanding of China in all-around way, including Chinese policy, economics and culture, etc.

    Short-term Training Programs for Chinese People

  • Improve people’s management abilities and technical abilities through organizing them to visit overseas universities, government administration sections and enterprises in the fields of public management, economic management, education administration, graduate engineering education and real estate, etc.

    Chinese-Foreign Cooperation Programs in Running Schools mainly for Chinese People

    Learning Enterprise Consultation Program and 2007 Training Program

  • Speed up the concept update of the enterprise’ senior managers, lift enterprise’s innovation ability in technology and management and improve market competition through a series of trainings and the consultation activity of learning enterprise following last year’s more than 500 personnel training in management and marketing.
